Adalaj Vav is one of the finest monuments of Gujarat, India. The five story vav (step well) was built in 1499 A.D. by Queen Rudabai. An inscription in Sanskrit provides with the information about the date of its construction. The vav served as a resting place for hundreds of years for pilgrims and travellers. It was also constructed for religious and practical purpose for the people around.
The unique feature of Adalaj Vav is that it acts as a cooling chamber in the hot summer months. With the passing of time, the well has now become a memorial of the love of the queen for her husband.
