Coconut Boorelu

Coconut Boorelu or Kobbari Boorelu is a traditional (sweet) recipe from South India.
1 Kg Rice
1 Coconut
3/4 Kg Jaggery
10 Cardamom powdered
Oil for deep frying


  1. Soak rice overnight or for 4 hours
  2. Drain rice and make fine powder
  3. Grate coconut
  4. Melt jaggery with 1/2 cup water on medium flame
  5. Test the sugary syrup, should be of soft ball consistency
  6. Add grated coconut, stir and cook for two minutes
  7. Slowly add rice & cardamom powder and mix to form a soft dough
  8. Remove from flame and let it cool
  9. Rub your fingers with oil and roll out small lemon size balls
  10. Heat oil in a Kadai and deep fry rolled “Boorelu” till golden brown. They will stay fresh for a week to ten days
