Pure silver is a very soft metal. To strengthen and enhance its durability, the craftsmen and jewellers add a small amount of copper to the metal. This is called Sterling silver and contains 92.5% by mass of silver and 7.5% by mass of copper.
To keep your silver jewellery shiny, place a piece of regular chalk in your jewellery box. As chalk absorbs moisture it prevents them from tarnishing.
