A crispy and delicious tea-time snack to be enjoyed with friends and family.
Ingredients
1 cup Minapappu/ Urad dal
2 tbsp rice
1tsp Jeera/Cumin seeds
2 green chillies finely chopped
½ tsp ginger chopped
½ tsp coarse black pepper
1 onion chopped (optional)
2 tbsp coriander leaves chopped (optional)
3 sprig curry leaves chopped (optional)
¼ tsp baking soda
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying
Method
Soak Minapappu and rice for 4-5 hours. Drain and then grind together with very little water to a smooth paste (one tablespoon of water at a time).
The batter should hold its shape. Transfer to a mixing bowl.
Add cumin seeds, chopped onion, green chillies, ginger, black pepper, coriander leaves and curry leaves. Mix well. Add baking soda and salt.
Whisk the batter for 5 minutes to make the batter fluffy.
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat for deep frying. When hot, drop spoonful’s of the batter into the hot oil and fry to golden brown. Place the fried pakodi/pakoras on a paper-lined plate.
Serve hot with chutney or tomato sauce.
