Ullikurra/ Onion Curry

A simple recipe with great flavour and aroma. This spicy Ullikurra is quite
famous in Srikakulam District, Andhra Pradesh. It is a side dish that tastes
incredible with idli, dosa, poori or chapathi and is an alternate to our
regular chatneys.

Ingredients
2 tsp Besan/ Chickpea flour
250ml Water
200gm Onion (thinly sliced)
1 tsp Ginger
2 Green chilli chopped (as per taste)
1 Dry Red Chilli
¼ tsp (optional) Red Chilli powder
½ tsp Turmeric
2 Sprigs Curry Leaves
2 Tbsp Fresh Coriander Leaves
Salt to taste
Seasoning
2 Tbsp Oil
½ tsp Mustard seeds
½ tsp Cumin seeds

Method
1. Make a paste of besan and little water in a small bowl, mix until
smooth.
2. To this, add the remaining water, mix and keep aside.
3. Heat oil in a heavy base pan, when hot add mustard seeds and cumin
seeds.
4. When it starts to crackle, add chopped onion, ginger, green chilli, dry
red chilli and curry leaves.
5. Cook until the onions turn golden.
6. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and cook for a minute or
two.
7. Now add the besan mix slowly while stirring.
8. Bring to boil then cover and cook on low flame for 8-9 minutes, until
the sauce starts to get thick (flowing custard consistency).
9. Remove from flame and garnish with coriander leaves.
10. Serve hot with idli, dosa, poori or chapathi.
