Sprout pencils are new innovation invented by three Boston design graduates. sprout-pencil-1They are environmentally sustainable pencils which, after use, can be planted to grow into a herb or flower. The wood is made from cedar and graphite and clay for the writing tip meaning that only natural materials are being used to make the pencil. On top of that, the body of the pencil is FSC/PEFC certified wood meaning that it is only sourced from forests which are logged in a sustainable manner.
Sprout world says ‘most pencils, once sharpened down to a stub, serve no further use. They say they have created a solution to combat this waste. A pencil with a water activated seed capsule, Sprout can be planted when it becomes too short to use. What was once a writing utensil soon grows into an herb’.
