Cotton Castle

Pamukkale mean “cotton castle” in Turkish. The Pamukkale natural rock pools, were formed when hot springs with a high content of dissolved calcium bicarbonate cascaded over the edge of the cliff. As the layers of white calcium deposits cooled and hardened, they formed terraces of natural pools.

There are about 17 hot water springs with temperature ranging from 35 °C to 100 °C. In 1988 Pamukkale along with ancient city of Hierapolis was made a World Heritage Site.
